In May, the US Post Office held a county wide food drive. Twenty-nine thousand, five hundred and nineteen pounds of food was collected and distributed equally among seven organizations: Broken Bread, Hope on the Block, and Pantry of Hope among them.
Broken Bread provides food for 600-750 people each week. The Fondy Food Pantry serves 1,250 households per month. The Food Pantry feeds 1,100 kids per week through the Food for Thought program. They also have a Home Delivery Service which provides 35-40 households per week with food. As you can tell, there is a great many people in our community who are in need of a helping hand.
The Serving Commission has designated August as the time set aside to collect nonperishable food items. Examples of food items include: peanut butter, soup, tuna, beans, rice, whole grain cereals, canned fruit and veggies, pasta sauce, flour, sugar, and cooking oil.
Our church family has always been very generous. Thank you in advance for your donations.
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat. Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters, you did for me.” Jesus
